  1. It is a GREAT idea. I homeschooled for all of highschool, and I don't regret it at all. In fact, most, if not all colleges take homeschooled students. Its also a proven fact the homeschooled students are more independent with their work, able to learn more quickly, and are more inclined to study rather than party their way through college. I absolutely LOVED homeschool. It kept me away from all the junk in the highschools, like drugs and bullying and other c**p. The only thing I have against it is that my parents couldn't afford to put me in a sports or social program, so the only socializing I got was at church. And the library (which is where I worked, but I LOVED it, so not really a disadvantage.) So yeah, just socialize the homeschooler, and there's nothing that he could hate, except maybe actually DOING the schoolwork. You've sometimes gotta crack down on that. :)

  2. I think like all other situations there are plus and minus here.

I feel that school is good for a child to learn how to socalize with other children and interact with them

However if you do decide to homeschool then all colleges will accept a homeschool child as long as they have past state exams and meet the grades.

    Good Luck

  3. I have never been homeschooled, but every person that I have met so far that has been, has some sort of social awkwardness. They do not get the experience of peers that regular schooling gives, also they do not get a chance to interact in groups and work with other students on getting things done. I would say it is a bad idea personally.

  4. My daughter loves being homeschooled. For us it was the best option. As for college, each college has different criteria as for what they what in a student and there are many ways to get into college. One option is to attend a local junior college and then transfer to a college of higher learning. Another is to score well on the SAT / ACT test.

Check with the college you want to attend and find out what they require from a homeschool student and go from there. Many colleges are accepting homeschooled students on their test scores along with any other required paper work like letters of recommendations, letters from where you have volunteered, or from an employer.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Each state has different regulations, I homeschooled my 2 children after they got headlice from PS. I found it to be very flexible and even fun, but honestly it takes a really special person, it is so much work creating a school enviroment in your home on top of your daily house responsibilities, and then your hubby comes in the door, if you don't have a supportive 100% for it hubby it won't work for you. I have a friend that was homeschooled by her mom and she's a great person, very intelligent but only went to College for 1 year because she got pregant and didn't continue. I have a neighbor down the street that homeschools all 5 of her kids, they are very involved in their church and do alot of outside activitie also they are the politest little kids you will ever meet.

I looked into the College question for myself and they can attend some of the same colleges as everyone else, in fact Colleges look forward to their aps because they know the majority of homeschooled children average 4 grades higher than their PS peers. I included a source of the complete list below

  6. Homeschooling is the BEST option for your kids.  They will be safer and more independent.  I basically taught myself through high school and had a GPA of 3.6.  (Darn algebra!!!).  Almost all collages take homeschoolers.  The idea that homeschoolers are rude, antisocial, etc.  is a complete LIE!!!  Ive had people approach my friends and I on several occasions and mention how outgoing, polite and respectful we were.  (I'm not trying to brag.  I'm just telling the truth.)

  7. Homeschooling's a great idea.  I won't try to explain why (the people before me seem to have done a good job) so I'll just give you an example:

Went to high school as a sophomore at age 13 (because homeschooling didn't work for band, choir, foreign language, or biology dissection).  Straight As through high school.  Started college (Kansas State) at age 16.  Studied abroad for a semester in Germany.  Had an internship related to my degree every summer through graduation, including two abroad.  Graduated SummaCumLaude (perfect 4.0) in mechanical engineering at age 20.  Won a prestigious fellowship for graduate school at Virginia Tech.  Won a Fulbright fellowship for a year of study in Germany this September.

Do you think homeschooling worked?  Think my parents gave me the motivation to use my talents to grow and excel?  Think I'm "socially adjusted"?  I'll leave it to you to decide :-)

  8. Probably not.

  9. I homeschooled my daughter last year and she loved it so much we will continue it. she gets one on one attention everyday. she can schedule her days off. we take field trips with other homeschool families and so she still gets to socialize and I have her friends come over atleast once a week. If there is a lesson I want her to know more about I can expand the lesson or if it is something I don't  think she needs to cover we can skip the lesson. not to mention she doesnt have all the negative influence from other kids and hasnt been sick in over a year. so there are definitely pros to homeschool. you take all the required testing so if you need to go to a public school later or college then all your paper work is up to scale. I think she can focus better being home and I know exactly what she is learning.

  10. Is having children a good idea? Honestly, it depends upon what people we are talking about. Some people just shouldn't be parents - but that is not for the government to decide (luckily)

It is a good idea for many families who are very happy and have great lives.

    Another post said:

"They do not get the experience of peers that regular schooling gives,"

YES, the kids have different life experiences than those who attend traditional school, but that is not automatically a bad thing.  Often those experiences are more varied and unique than a public school studentl.

That same poster showed his ignorance of homeschooling by saying:

"They do not get a chance to interact in groups and work with other students on getting things done."

Tell that to the group of 30 kids from our homeschool group who participated (for the 4th year in a row) in a week long archealogy dig. This year they studied Renaissance Italy, next year will be the Maya.  How often did you get to focus on such cool stuff in public school, with your friends (ranging in age from 5-14) working right alongside you?

Homeschooling is not for everyone - but it is certainly the best choice for MY family!
