how do i get rid of AOL and go back to the original internet browser that i had.

For running slow there are many causes:

Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!

Spyware/Adware

RAM

De-Fragmenting

Etc.

Below can help you speed up your pc:

For  IE, click Tools, Internet Options  delete files (offline files) clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want) click o.k., and Restart

For Firfox, press ctrl+shift+del, and click clean private data.

Manage your startup:

Open your Start menu  ->  Click Run ->  In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" ->  In the "system configuration utility", click either "service" or "startup" tab ->  Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

De-Fragmenting

1. Right click of C Disk.

2. Click properties.

3. Click tools tab.

4. Click "Defragment now".

5. Click Defragment.

You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

Under steps:

1. right click on the TaskBar.

2. click the Task Manager.

3. click the processes tab.

4. double click the CPU.

5. find if the "System Idle Process" is max.

6. if not right click and click end process.

go into control panel   then  add or remove programs and delete aol  but only after downloading something new from the web

then go to internet explorer>tools>options>programs tab....select Make default browser

Why do you need the original browser?

AOL is a notoriously infections system.

To totally get rid of AOL one must format the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

I've seen systems with slight AOL artifacts working just fine.

1) Find AOL in the START - Programs menu and select UNINSTALL; AND/OR

(2) Add/Remove Programs; AND/OR

(3) Go to Windows Explorer, Select your main hard drive, open its contents, open the folder PROGRAM FILES, and delete the entire AOL folder, or AOD folder; AND/OR

(4) START - SEARCH - type in "AOL" and delete all of the results.

If you do this you're pretty much guranteed to get rid of everything concerning AOL programs

First make sure you have a default browser to use.  Open IE and make sure you can set it up as the default browser and that you can connect to the Internet with it without using AOL's browser.  If you prefer, download and use Firefox first as your main browser.

You must be sure you can set up the Internet connection for these browsers.

I don't know if you are just using an AOL browser with another Internet Provider or are using AOL as your IP.  You can't delete AOL's IP service unless you have another way to connect like through a cable or DSL modem.

Anything referring to AOL that can be uninstalled will be found in the Control Panel's utility, Add or Remove Programs.  What you remove is more than likely going to leave remnants in the Program Files folder.  Use Windows Explorer to browse to the folder and scroll down to where AOL stuff you removed may still be located.  Delete the folder.

I recommend that you make a good Restore Point before doing all this.  Afterwards, you may want to run Disk Cleaner and Disk Defragmenter from the System Tools menu under Programs>Accessories.  CCleaner would help clean up a lot of junk stuff left behind if you want to use it.  It has a Registry Cleaner, too.

OK - Long story short.

You have America Online Browser.

You want to return to your Internet explorer, this came with your computer.

This method will permanently erase AOL from your computer, It is irreversible.

Heres what to do:

Go to the start menu and click 'Set program access defaults.

Go to the Custom tab. Then under the title 'Choose a Default internet browser' and click on the 'Internet Explorer' Option bubble.

Then download CC Cleaner (This is a program the will entirley wipe AOL from your disk.)

Once you have installed it select programs and then tick AOL. Then click the button to start the removal process...

Otheriwse go to

C:/Program Files/ and delete the folder called AOL.

Now to make sure that everything worked out go to your start menu and click on Internet.

Internet explorer should launch.

Please note that any personal data you had in AOL (E.g Bookmarks, History, Saved Passwords etc.) will not be in internet explorer.
