  1. I wonder if you had talked to the owner or manager.

You need to write a letter indicating that you had called and cancelled your membership (but denied that right) and should not be billed because no service had been rendered/used since.

You have the right to quit membership and that you don't appreciate being threatened with credit collectors for something you do not owe.

Then explain in the letter that you have not used the salon since calling to cancel membership and that you should not have to pay. Send a copy of your letter to the Better Business Bureau in your area.  At the bottom of the letter, write "cc: Better Business Bureau of ???"  You fill in the city in place of the question marks.

Keep a copy of the letter and send it via Certified Mail to prove that they received it.

    Example:

    "Dear x*x Salon/ Manager/ Owner:

Due to health reasons involving an increased level of asthma trauma, I have had to cancel my tanning account at your salon. However, I was denied my right to cancel membership by your representative.

I have not returned to your establishment and have not used your facility since cancellation. I do not believe that you are practicing good business ethics by forcing membership upon consumers who wish to cancel, send them a bill for no services rendered or used, and threatening them with credit collectors.

I received a bill for services from XXXX to XXXX. Since I have not been to your establishment since x*x and have requested for membership cancellation, I should not have been billed.

Your establishment is using a bullying tactic that is illegal.

I would appreciate my account cancelled, retrogressing to the original cancellation date that was requested. Further contact from you is harrassment and will be reported.

    Signed, XXXX

cc: Better Business Bureau of x*x"

If you're not comfortable with the above suggestion, you better get help somewhere before your credit is ruined by these @ssholes.

  2. When you opened the account, you probably signed a contract that committed you to a year or so of payments. Tanning salons routinely do this. Check your contract to be sure. If you did, you have to pay!

  3. either get a dr note and call the better business bureau or lie and say you moved ;)

  4. I agree with the other answer.  Try to get a note from your doctor saying its medically unsafe for you to tan and then use that to get out of the contract.  They can not force you to pay for something that will make you sick.

  5. You need to find out if you agreed to a contract with them. Most of these salons have some sort of terms or rules. My understanding of law is you can cancel within 7 days.I think they are trying to bully you.Do you have law advocates where you live? These are legal representatives that offer free services to people like you.But you need some sort of legal representation.Don't pay for what you haven't had. Good Luck!
