Urgent help with scientific reasearch project?

Hey guys im 13 yet ihave to start a BUG yet ddifficult science project, I have no idea how it works but can anyone heree just explain the concept of it, So heres the question.

"Does the width of an elastic affect its ability to stretch?"

Can someone just explain to me if it does or doesn't.And why , Just a basic idea, THANKS SO MUCH

  1. I believe it does.  If you are trying to pull an elastic w/ more width (more area), then it follows that you need more force to pull it.

    According to Young's Modulus, the elasticity of an object is measured by the ratio of stress over strain.  Stress meaning the force applied to stretch the object, and strain meaning the change of the length of the object.

    Thus, since there is more cross sectional area to stretch, then there is a change.  It affects its ability to stretch.
