  1. I agree with Momsey, try feeding him again first.  When my son was first born he ate every 2 hours.  He s also exclusively breastfed.

If he won't eat or is still gassy, resting him over your legs and patting his back.

You can also try a tummy massage.  Move your hands in a circular motion going clockwise on his belly, then lift his knees to his chest and repeat.

If it still doesn't seem to work, you can try some gas drops to help dissolve that tummy bubble.

Also, make sure you are waking him every 3-4 hours overnight.  Newborn babies don;t know that they need to wake up and eat until they are a couple weeks old!

    Congratulations on the new baby!

  2. I gave all my kids infant gas relief drops since the first day they were born. no side effects and no overdoes possibility totally safe and full proof and they saved my life. generic is called infant gas relief active ingredient is simethicone or check it out on rx.com. I am also a pharm tech.

  3. Gripe water works amazing. Give him a bit of gripe water and try burping him in differnt positions.

Sometimes just the change from 1 position to the next will trigger the gas to come up.

My daughter was very coliky and we would lay her flat on her belly on your legs supporting her under her chin and burp her that way. If that didnt work we would have to get up, put her on our shoulder and burp her. Sometimes if you rub his back upwards then pat, rub upwards than pat, you can bring the gas up this way.

You will find what works best for him. Make sure he burps after every feeding and between feedings on each side.

  4. Breast fed babies don't need to burp as often as bottle fed babies. Also, it takes them longer to fill up on breast milk, so it's possible he may still be hungry.

Otherwise, try this method for burping your little one:

When I burped my babies, I gently tucked their legs up under them and bounced them ever so slightly while I patted their back. Their legs added a little extra pressure to help push out gas bubbles and the gentle bouncing motion helped soothe them and also helped push the bubbles out.

Also, while I was burping them, I'd pat the sides of her back. (instead of just around the spine) getting the sides of the tummy.

Also... the gas may need to come out of the other end. I could usually tell this if their tummy seemed to feel a little hard. In order to relieve this, I layed the baby on her back and gently pushed her knees up toward her chest a few times.

I hope this helps because it helped me, many times.

  5. just patting on his back should work, or what you could try to do is rub his back in a upward way, kinda like you are pressing the burp out... or helping the gas come up.

  6. Hold him over your shoulder and rub or pat his back.  Or sit him on your knee, holding up his head and rub or pat his back.

That boy needs to eat!  4 hours is too long to already have gone since he last ate.

  7. This is hard to explain so I hope I make sense lol.  I had 4 kids and 3 had very bad colic...lucky me!  the best way I found to ease their colic was to do what a mother of 7 told me to do.  Take the baby and lay it on your arm tummy down with crotch/bumm area in your palm. Baby's tummy will be laying flat on your arm, with head down by the elbow.  I always referred to it as holding them like a rag doll.  this way you can sway the baby back and forth gently which eases the colic.  when in this position take and rub not pat from the bottom of the back up to the top of the back and pat gently.  This works the bubbles up and out.  I used to carry my babies like this and you wouldn't believe the looks I got. But, my babies cried less and were happy in this position.

Another good way to burp is to sit the baby on your lap gently move the baby back and forth while in the sitting position.

Another way...put your legs together and lay baby across your lap rub his back in circular motion.

Hope this helps.  If baby isn't eating by morning it is time to call the doctor.

  8. hold him up to ur shoulder and gently pat his back. once that's done he'll want to eat and once he starts he'll probably fall asleep. good luck! :)

  9. When you burp make sure you're pressing on the belly somehow.  Either on your shoulder, leg, sitting up against your hand, just make sure there's gentle pressure on the tummy to press the air out.  And try feeing one breast, burping, feeding the second breast, and burping again to be sure he's full.  To soothe and burp walk around the house gently bouncing while the baby is against your shoulder, that should help.  I for one think your baby is hungry and trying to get your milk in so let him nurse as much as he wants.

  10. Burping is very important. I would burp my newborn daughter every 5 minutes when breastfeeding her. (This also helped to wake her up as she kept falling asleep). To get her air bubbles up, I would put her head and arms over my shoulder, to make sure her back was as straight as possible, and pat/rub her back. Sometimes it would take 10 minutes. I would ensure that she burped after every feed. I was always very consistent when winding her, she is now 6 months old and is an excellent (+loud) burper!!! You can also try to do gentle bicycle leg exercises or rub your son's tummy lightly in a circular motion if you think he may have gas. If he is still refusing to eat I would ring the hospital and get some medical advice... Hope a burp comes up soon...

Here is a video on how to burp your baby, it's easier than trying to explain how to.

  12. first you need to watch what you eat cause what ever you eat the baby gets and if you think it will  give you gas it is going to give him gas what you can do is rub his stomach clockwise to help him pass the gas alone and you can also roll his legs in his stomach that will also pass the gas alone there are a few ways to burp them you can put him on your shoulder and pat him our you can hold his head like up under his chin and have him sitting on your leg and pat his back and burp him. i know you just might want to brest feed but you need to feed every two hours so you can build you breast milk if not when he start eating good you are not going to be able to keep up with him if you don't feed every two hours then pump and store in refrigerator  but he might not be getting enough right now and make sure you are still swaddling him to to make him them he is still in the tummy

  13. try to keep really calm and breast feed him, he's probably hungary but your milk hasn't come in yet. also try lying with him skin to skin, him in just his diaper against your skin, the warmth and familiar smell may soothe him. if you are really concerned call the hospital a nurse may have some good suggestions. hang in there!

  14. I like to sit the baby on my lap and hold his chin w/one hand (looks to other like yo ur chocking the baby, but your just holding his chin) and rub and hit his back with the other hand.

I have also found that babies like to be held w/their face over your forearm and their legs on either side of your hand. (Kind of hard to imagine a know, but think of it like cradling the baby upside down, so their tummy is resting on your forearm.)

  15. after he eats..take him and rest him on your shoulder...rub or gently pat his back until he burps..they usually do not long after you start rubbing or patting.  if he seems like he isnt burbing much and is still fussy..try some gas drops...they work quick and releave them..best thing to do is just to make sure they are well burped after meals before trying them though...good luck

edit..i jjst saw you last feed him 4 hours ago..hun newborns need to eat more often..if he is fussy that is a good reason why he is...most newborns..especailly breast feed babies feed every 2 hours.

  16. OKay, take a breath!

Putting the baby on your shoulder is a great way to burp.  Alternately, you can sit down and lay the baby carefully face-down on your lap.  Sometimes just some position changes helps.

If you're nursing, there is less chance the baby swallows air while feeding, but it can still happen.  He can also be reacting to the change of enviornment/stimulation of going from the hospital to home.

First few nights are rough.  Try to relax, stay calm.  Nap when you can.

Best of luck and congratulations on the birth of your son!
