Urgent puppy question... regarding vaccinations (discovered lump where vaccination was given) ?

On Thursday, we took our 4 month old Maltese to the vet to get three shots - the Distemper Vaccination, The Bordatella (don't know if i spelled it right) Vacination, and the Rabies Vacination.

I am not sure the order... but I think its the order that I put it..

during the third vacination (which was above the shoulder of the right front paw) the puppy like screamed...

which he didn't do for the previous two vaccinations.

That night, he was very sleepy... and wouldn't get up... and was just like passed out...which is odd because normally he is a very lively 4 month old puppy :)

(i posted a question regarding this earlier)

today, we discovered a hard quarter sized lump exactly where the third shot was given...

is this normal?

it doesn't hurt him when we touch it... but it doesn't seem normal.

HELP !

  1. no it is not normal take ur dog to the vet asap! this means that the shot or whatever somehow did not go into its vain all the way do not try to force the bump in and do not touch it if im right this is most likely hurting the dog please take your pet to the vet to get it checked out

  2. Yes it is normal.  It is just a little scar tissue.  Vaccinations aren't given intravenously anyway.  The same thing just happened to me and my vet said it would go away in a week or two and it did.  Freaked me out a little too though.

  3. Bumps at the vaccination site happen.  It is a site reaction to the vaccine itself.  Thus bump will dissipate over the next two weeks.  No worries!

And the Distemper vaccine can closely be compared to the DPT shot for children... it makes them more sleepy then normal!

  4. yes that is all normal.  No worries.

  5. There is a group here on yahoo.com called the Truth about Vaccines.  You will learn much there.  Here is just one website with some additional information:

You may have trouble convincing your vet that the vaccinations have caused a problem with your dog.  You may have to find a holistic vet.

A friend's dog was just diagnosed with encephalitis and the vets treating her attribute it to her annual vaccines which she had the SAME DAY she first showed symptoms.

So this is not in your mind.  Your dog has experienced a reaction and you need to find a sympathetic vet who can help you and will support you going forward if you stop vaccinating.

You will also learn that it is dangerous to give multiple vaccinations on the same day.  We are injecting various foreign agents into our pets all at once, which would NEVER happen in nature.  So their little bodies are trying to fight a lot of diseases all at once.  This causes the immune system to go into overdrive.

Not every dog has obvious reactions, but many do.  Yours is one of those.  And injection site reactions can be more serious in some dogs than others.

Join the yahoo group The Truth about Vaccines and educate yourself.  Your little maltese needs you to research this for yourself.  Don't let your vet intimidate you.  He/She only knows what they were taught.  And you will soon learn that the pharmaceutical companies are big supporters of the vet schools.  So it stands to reason that vets are taught to vaccinate.

I am so sorry this happened to you.  But you will find that you are not alone.  It is happening to thousands of us.  We have to educate ourselves and fight back against over vaccinating.
