Question:

Urgent question about apartment leases?

Hi guys,

My friend and I have signed the lease for an apartment with some other girls in January. Since then, my friend and I decided to move out, and started looking for people who would replace us. We also found another place for us to stay.

A few days ago, my friend and I agreed to meet up with the replacements we found on Craigslist to do the paperworks for the apartment. However, they backed out from the agreement last minute, and now we are in a serious hurry to find replacements or pay for the apartment that which we are not going to live in. And we cannot pay for that rent because we already agreed to live at my friend's relative's place and paid them a sum of money.

What should we do? We have been on the search for people to replace us, but so far the people we found backed out on the last minute, and it seems like it will be really hard to find people so late. (We need to resolve this problem before school starts later in september.) I will be greatful for any suggestions/advice you guys have.

  1. well...pointing out your mistakes would probably be pointless because I'm sure you realize by now what  you should have done differently.

So, going forward why don't  you put an ad in the local paper and on bulletin boards etc and meet up with these people in person..also allowing the other renters to agree to the new people...get them on the lease immediately and their money for first rent and security paid right awya...otherwise you are still responsible your name is on the lease.

  2. The other girls won't be in trouble alone...you'll be in trouble to.

Where in the world did you think you could sublease your portion without permission from the landlord?

You can't sweetie...you don't own it, you RENT it and you signed a legally binding contract.

Every single one of you are EQUALLY responsible for the rent.

None of this is the landlord's problem...it's yours.

  3. I recomend checking this out before you do anything

  4. offer an incentive like free security deposit, or a low one.

you're not getting out of a lease that easy.
