Urijah Faber: Renan Barao is a dangerous fighter unlike Dominick Cruz – UFC News
Urijah Faber, the former World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight champion, in a recent media interaction dubbed his upcoming opponent Renan Barao a dangerous fighter, adding that Dominick Cruz is a great brawler but not as dangerous as the Brazilian Barao.
Faber, who seems to be a bit wary of Renan’s abilities and potential, further added that the bout will be a classic one, adding that he thinks of it as a personal venture. Urijah was of the view that Renan is destroying him by grabbing the second spot in
the rankings and by becoming the world champion.
Faber will take on most probably the toughest opponent of his career Barao at UFC 149. The show will be televised live on July 21, 2012 from Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The bout will have the UFC’s interim bantamweight title up for grabs and Faber is thinking of engraving his name on it so as to feel the limelight of becoming the world champion one more time.
Faber has never grabbed the UFC’s bantamweight gold. During the brief media take-on, Faber openly praised his opponent for being a talented in fact dangerous opponent.
Urijah stated, “This is the most dangerous fight in the UFC in the 135-pound division right now. You look at Dominick Cruz, he’s a great fighter. He’s not a dangerous fighter.”
Faber went on and further added that they will beat each other badly, “All of Renan Barao’s fights are memorable. He’s a dangerous fighter. We’re going to go out there and try to rip each others’ heads off. It’s going to be ugly.”
As far as the rivalry or the bout is concerned it will get settled in the octagon but for the time being Renan should be happy as he has received a huge compliment of being ‘dangerous’ from a former champion and the second best bantamweight in the world.
When asked as to what he thinks about the bout and Barao specifically, the 33-year-old Faber stated, “Barao is trying to harm me, to mess me up and take away my dream of being the UFC world champion. What's more personal than that?”
Faber while explaining his above comment further added that he does not have any grudge against Renan like the way he has against Cruz, adding that he has a good resume and by personal it means that Barao is trying to take his spot in the division.
Renan, ranked as the third best bantamweight in the world, boasts 28 wins in a total of 30 bouts. Moreover, he is also just like Faber, pronounced as one of the best submission specialists in UFC therefore a bloody clash is definitely expected.
