Urijah Faber will be competing for interim Bantamweight title at UFC 148 – UFC News
Confirmation of Urijah Faber fighting for interim Bantamweight title at UFC 148 came in earlier today by president of UFC Dana White. The decision has been made following the current Dominick Cruz’s torn ACL due to which he will not be competing in the sport
for some time.
When asked if Cruz will be the next person to fight for the interim title, Dana White said, “The answer is yes. So what’s going to happen is Urijah Faber will, he’s going to fight still, he’s going to fight on the same card. Now, I’m looking for the right
opponent. The guy who deserves this shot at Urijah Faber.”
White then emphasized on Cruz’s injury saying, “Dominick was training, not with his team, but for the fight with Faber, and he blew his ACL. Typically, when you blow the ACL, its nine months (to recover). Look at GSP (Georges St-Pierre). He’s an absolute
professional and is in amazing shape. He does everything he’s supposed to and he’s out for nine months.”
Furthermore, White said that Cruz will stay on since he has been a great member training his team. According to White, all the teams got the chance under Cruz to become even if Rio would have taken the victory, but since Ogle beat him things changed.
Cruz injury has come in as a positive signal for Urijah, who has been waiting his turn for quite some time now to enter the ring for a title.
According to Urijah, Renan Barao, Michael McDonald and Ivan Menjivar can be his opponents for the title shot. For now, Urijah is excited for his match on June 7 for the interim title.
According to Dana White Urijah is the person who deserves the shot and now he will get it. It is been long for Urijah and now it seems like he finally got his hands on the show. This will be Urijah’s only chance to prove his mettle in UFC and if he is unable
to do so, he probably will have to wait for a long time to get such a chance again.
