Question:

Urinating in kettles in hotel rooms?

Many hotels and B&Bs have a kettle in their rooms for guests to make teas coffe etc but I have been told by a friend who works in a hotel that many people place this kettle next to the bed to urinate in during the night because they are too lazy to go to the toilet. Given that 95% of hotel kettles contain traces of urine do you feel its time to stop putting kettles in rooms

  1. Oh no thats so gross I heard than they did the same sort of test on bowling balls in the holes and they found traces of human poo!!!! I havent been bowling for years because of that, these kind of things scar me for life!!!!!

At least boiling the kettle would kill the germs but still to minging for words!

  2. Yuck and I have stayed in loads of hotels with kettles in the room.  Please tell me that this is just a joke.....ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww    (feeling sick!!)

  3. Urgh! That's just disgusting =)

  4. Eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww.

    that's truly gross.

sloth 1 of the 7 deadly sins & this 1 could kill an unsuspecting patron or make them very ill.

    YUK!

  5. Okay, for one I doubt your statistics, who has gone around and tested all the kettles in hotel rooms to see how much urine they have, or don't have in them. Did you? I don't think so. Secondly, would people not wash out the kettle before they use it? That would get rid of any traces of urine left by anyone who was too lazy/dumb/disgusting enough to pee in the kettle. And lastly, I would imagine that people would actually use the kettle what it is there for, to boil water for a morning cup of coffee or tea rather than pee into it because they can't walk ten yards to the toilet.

  6. thats just gross - ive never ever heard of anything like it.

i dont drink hot drinks so i wouldnt care

  7. To be honest I think someone is having you on.  I worked for 4 years in a small B&B in Blackpool of all places and with all the stag and hen parties I've had to clean up after I've never heard of that happening (and if you've been there you'll know what I'm talking about).  I also worked in housekeeping in a large hotel chain for 2 years and again I've never heard of this.

People wetting the bed - yes, people peeing in the kettle - no

  8. GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !

  9. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

  10. Euwwwwww....!!!!

  11. That is digusting...who in the right mind would do that?

Can you imagine if the other person they were sharing the room with picked up the kettle and boiled it....ewwwwww

  12. its time to stop letting 95% pissing about and put a urine detector in the kettles

  13. If this is in fact a true and acurate statement I am all for not putting kettles in rooms.  I will definately not use them.  D & G Gifts Etc

  14. Why is this question posted three times?

  15. eww thats gross yes i think they should stop using them in rooms have people no respect!

  16. Yuck---whatever happened to the chamber pot.

  17. i wont ever be making a cup of rosie in hotels anymore, thanks for the heads up. thats F*****G rank.

  18. ah, where are the chamber pots when we really need them?

  19. Yuck, that's disgusting, I'm never going to use the kettle in a hotel room again, thanks for that.

  20. Funniest question I have read on here yet.

That said, after reading this I will NEVER stay in a guest house that has a kettle and no private toilet. Oh, and I think I'll only drink tea at home or in a restaurant where I can see the water BEFORE the tea bag goes in.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, how do you know the kitchen didn't go and grab a kettle from a guest room. LOL

I want to know where you got your research that says 95% of hotel kettles contain traces of urine. Who is doing the testing and how are they doing it? LMAO

I think I'm more concerned about spillage on the carpet. ;-)

  21. IT WOULD SEEM THAT THERE ARE SOME SICK PEOPLE AROUND!

  22. Where did you find this out!!!! Euw!

  23. that is an alarming statistic, I don't think I'll be using them in future.

  24. You have to remember that urine is sterile. Therefore it is totally harmless.

Hot chocolate is excellent at masking the taste!

  25. I'm horrified to hear this y'know. i work for a hotel reservations agency and have never heard anything like it. It would be nice if your friend tells us which hotel this is so it could be mentioned to them. But then i guess once the water has boiled then all traces of germs would go. But how lazy, most hotel rooms are so small you can reach the bathroom from the bed anyway!!!

It's still very wrong to hear about but i would be gutted if there WASN'T a kettle in the room, coz it's nice to make your own brew instead of the rubbish they normally serve in their restaurants/breakfast rooms.

  26. Nice urban myth. A bit like if a hotel finds a dead person in the bed and the maid service has finished they just make the bed and re-let the room.

Even if this was true, which it clearly isn't, surely most people would boil the kettle before making a drink from it. That would kill any germs so it's perfectly safe.

  27. it is just your mate winding you up
