Urs Huber and Kenny Looser retain their lead in fifth stage of 2011 TransAlp
Stockli team’s Urs Huber and Kenny Looser maintain their lead in the fifth stage of 2011 TransAlp on Wednesday, July 20. The race started in St.Vigil and ended in Alleghe.
Huber and Looser took a total of 2 hours, 17 minutes and 17 seconds to cover the distance of 73.6 kilometres.
Markus Kaufmann and Rupert Palmberger of Centurion-Vaude were runners-up with a difference of 3 minutes and 51 seconds. Massimo De Bertolis and Johann Pallhuber (Silmax Autopolar Cannondale) were in third spot with a difference of 1 second.
Due to bad weather conditions with temperatures falling below zero degree and strong cross-winds forced the organisers of the stage to shorten the originally 73.59 kilometres distance down to some 50 kilometres. Although the race ended at the second feeding
station, but Huber and Looser maintained their overall lead in the stage.
Udo Bolts and Andreas Strobel of Centurion-Vaude again showed his good effort and secured the master title with a timing of 2 hours, 26 minutes and 25 seconds.
Silvia Wieltschnig and Heinz Zorweg (Factory Team Cube 1) were in second place with a difference of 3 minutes and 51 seconds. Jogi Brunner and Hansjurg Gerber (Zellweger Architekten Ag Thun) finished third with a difference of 3 minutes and 52 seconds.
In the senior men category, the Italian cyclists, Silvano Janes and Walter Platzgummer, again showed his good effort and took the title of best senior rider with a timing of 2 hours, 30 minutes and 45 seconds.
Erich Pross and Erwin Dietrich of Zweirad Janger grabbed the second place and Walter Perkmann and Georg Niggl of Carft and Friends were in third place.
In the women's category, Katrin Neumann and Martina Miessgang (Mountain Heroes) secured her third victory in the fifth stage of the race. Neumann and Martina took a total of 3 hours, 5 minutes and 32 seconds to cover the distance of the stage.
Natascha Binder and Daniele Troesch (Felt Otztal X-Bionic / Rotwild) were runners-up with the same timing and Yvonne Gassenbauer and Antje Hammelehle finished third with 9 minutes and 40 seconds down to Mountain Heroes.
Craft-Rocky Mountain 2 team’s Carsten Bresser and Pia Sundstedt again showed their brilliant performance and took the title of mixed category with a timing of 2 hours, 30 minutes and 44 seconds.
Daniel Jung and Kristina Weber of Mountain Heroes 1 were in second spot with a difference of 6 minutes and 50 seconds and Milena Landtwing and Martin Kiechle were in third spot with 8 minutes and 20 seconds behind.
The next stage will start in Alleghe and end in San Martino di Castrozza. All the cyclists will cover the distance of 72.4 kilometres.
