Urska Polc defeats Sabina Magyar in Women’s Singles qualifying round of Slovenia International 2011
Slovenia’s Urska Polc defeated Sabina Magyar in the Women’s Singles qualifying round of the Slovenia International 2011 on Thursday, May 12. Urska took 34 minutes to get rid of her national teammate, Sabina, in a superb three-set fight.
The opening set was completely one-sided, where Urska remained dominant throughout the entire game. She was far ahead of the opponent in all aspects of the game, and was playing flawless badminton in the opening set of this qualifying-round match. Right
from the start of the opening game, Sabina could not deliver well as she made many unforced errors and provided an opportunity for the opponent to get hold on the match.
Urska established a terrific lead of 11-5 in the first half of the set. Sabina failed to break the momentum of the opponent as she was perfect in her shot selection and execution of the strokes. Urska proved too strong for the opponent in the opening set
and won it without facing any difficulty in just 9 minutes, with a 21-12 margin.
The second set saw a better performance from Sabina, as she elevated her game and set up a reasonable difference of 9-6. Urska tried to play some unusual shots but lost her control and made some unforced errors. At the one-minute interval, Sabina was ahead
of the opponent at 11-8.
After taking the one-minute rest, Sabina continued her positive play and remained composed. She never lost her control at any point of the second set. Urska failed to find the gaps in the opposite side of the court to score points as her opponent was picking
the bird from all corners of the court. Sabina eventually grabbed the second game in just 13 minutes by a decent margin of 21-15.
In the final set of the match, Urska worked really hard from the start and managed to establish a two-point lead at the opening half by reaching at 11-9. Sabina was picking the bird a little late and that helped the opponent dominate the game at the net.
After the break, Urska remained on the right track and stretched her lead by reaching 15-11. She was playing at her best in the third set and finished it up in just 11 minutes with a 21-15 margin. This 34-minute match ended in the favour of Urska with a
21-12, 15-21 and 21-15 score on the board.
