Urszula Radwanska and Catalina Castano through to the final qualies of 2011 Grand Prix SAR
Third seed Urszula Radwanska staged a marvelous comeback at fes, Morocco to defeat Portuguese Maria Joao Koehler 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the 2011 Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem. With her win, the Polish tennis-pro has also advances
into the qualifying final round of the event.
Radwanska looked a bit out of sorts as the match started. She committed a large number of unforced errors early in the opening set which allowed her opponent to dictate terms. Koehler made the crucial serve break in third game
of the opener and then held on to her serve games to bag the take the set score lead 1-0.
Tables were turned in the second set as Radwanska broke the serve in the very first game of the set. Koehler put in her best effort to break back however the 20-year-old Radwanska managed to claim all the games on her serve to
take the match into a decider.
Both players put up an impressive show in the final set as the match entered an exciting phase. Koehler had a chance to break the serve but Radwanska saved three break points to keep the game score at 4-4. With some high quality
tennis Radwanska secured the next two games and completed her terrific win in a match that lasted for 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Radwanska adopted an aggressive approach creating difficult angles from the baseline. Her serve was also superior as she fired 11 aces in the match. The polish tennis-pro broke the serve nine times during the contest which played
a vital role in deciding the outcome of the game. Koehler made a positive start to the match but lost her focus and ended up on the losing side.
Meanwhile, Columbian Catalina Castano secured a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 victory over Lindsay Lee-Waters of United States on Sunday to move ahead at the red clay courts of Fes.
Castano showed absolutely no nerves in her previous match at the Women’s Tennis Association tournament as she snatched a tight win against Ioana Raluca Olaru 6-4, 7-6 (5). The 31-year-old continued her impressive form in the second
round play and required only 1 hour and 20 minutes dispatching her opponent.
With her win the Columbian has also improved her head to head record against Lee-Waters to 4-2. Their last meeting took place at the 2004 Sony Ericsson Open when Lee-Waters won in three tight sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Castano displayed
some crafty tennis in both sets and broke the serve five times to establish firm control over the contest. Her next round opponent will be Urszula Radwanska.
