Urszula Radwanska beats Rika Fujiwara to enter the first round – US Open 2011
World number 116, Urszula Radwanska of Poland is all set to show her acme of perfection in the first round of US Open 2011 as she beat world number 201, Rika Fujiwara of
Japan in the final round of qualifying draw. The Polish player did not have to put a lot of effort into achieving her win, as she won the match in two easy sets 6-4, 6-3 and entered the first round of tournament, being played at the outdoor hard courts at
USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, United States.
Playing against Fujiwara for the first time, the 20-year-old Radwanska looked all set to rock her Japanese opponent from the get go. Although Radwanska gave her a lot of
opportunities to prove her mettle, she still remained unable to make any good impression on her 20-year-old opponent. Fujiwara, being the only Japanese player remaining in the final round of qualifying draw, could not face up to his opponent’s excellent shot
making and lost the match in straight sets.
Radwanska looked in high spirits as she entered the first set and managed to break as soon as she could in the opening set and hardly had to get out of second gear with
her excellent shot making and net play equally assured. With a positive attitude and right mindset, Radwanska served at just 65 percent but managed to win an impressive 82 percent in the opening set.
Things looked brighter than the New York sunshine as Radwanska quickly happened to break at the start of the second set, but this time her Japanese opponent stopped her
from consolidating. However, the sweet thing did not last long and in the very next game, a destructive backhand crosscourt helped Radwanska set up a break point at 3-3, and a double fault from the Japanese woman allowed Radwanska to edge ahead once again,
who clinched the second set with a 6-3 score line.
Radwanska wrapped up her clean effort with a whopping 78 percent on first serve and 62 percent on her second serve respectively. Although she did not hit any ace, she still
remained on top of her Japanese opponent, clinching the match in just 74 minutes of play.
Emerging victorious, the 20-year-old Radwanska has now reached the opening round of the main draw where she is scheduled to meet twelfth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska for the
third time and their head-to-head score is tied at 1-1.
