Urszula Radwanska crashes out to Anna Tatishvili in qualifiers – Rogers Cup 2012
Qualifying top seed, Urszula Radwanska, was edged out by the Georgian contestant, Anna Tatishvili, with a bagel at the Rogers Cup 2012 on Monday. She suffered a 4-6, 0-6 loss at the hands of the world number 79 in the final qualifying round at this WTA (Women’s
Tennis Association) Premier Five event taking place in Montreal, Canada.
The Polish seed displayed brilliant skills to outfox the local star, Melanie Oudin, in a three-set thriller. However, she stepped off steam later that day, eventually exiting to the qualifying 11th seed in a 68-minute marathon. As a result, the
Georgian secured a spot in the main draw at this Emirates Airline US Open Series event.
Radwanska thundered into the hard courts of Stade Uniprix. She drew the first blood in the second game to leap to a 2-0 lead. However, the Pole lost her concentration after that and gifted away her serve in the very next game. She suffered another shock
in the ninth game and eventually endured a 4-6 loss.
Ranked 46th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Radwanska barely did anything in the following set. She failed to seek any breakpoint and was broken three times, subsequently suffering a brutal 0-6 defeat.
Summing up the top seed’s performance at this outdoor hard court event, Radwanska clobbered a better first serve share of 63 per cent as opposed to her rival’s 59 per cent but spilled more double faults. The Pole also failed to ward off all five breakpoints
she encountered.
However, Radwanska became a lucky loser at this event and is scheduled to play against Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova.
The 22-year-old on the other side of net progressed to square off against Kazakhstan’s Ksenia Pervak in the opening round.
The qualifying 12th seed, Johanna Larsson, also faced a similar fate. She overpowered Russia’s Alla Kudryavtseva in three sets before bowing out to Hungary’s Timea Babos in her second match of the day. The Swede made quick in-roads to pull out
the opener. However, she lost her path after that and eventually suffered a 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 defeat in two hours and 15 minutes.
