Urszula Radwanska dumps Melinda Czink in round one - Guangzhou Int’l Women's Open 2012
World number 39, Urszula Radwanska, reached the second round of the GRC Bank Guangzhou International Women's Open on the morning of Tuesday. She dumped the 92nd ranked Hungarian star, Melinda Czink, in straight sets
7-6(1), 6-2 to book a spot in the round of the 16 play.
Czink lost the first three points of the match on her serve and managed to win just a couple of rallies before the 21-year-old Pole sneaked an early breakpoint to take a lead of 1-0. Radwanska successfully protected the breakthrough
with a comfortable serve hold and extended the lead to 1-1.
The 29-year-old Hungarian was tested in her second serve game as well but the response was better on this occurrence; a serve hold decreased the trail to 1-2. Czink carried the momentum into the following game; won the breakpoint
back after a bit of gruelling struggle and tied the scores at 2-2.
No breakthrough was witnessed in the following three games before the swap of breakpoints pushed the scores further. A very tough serve hold featuring three breakpoints saved on different occurrences helped the Pole youngster to
stay alive in the set and make it 5-5.
Both players bagged serve games to enforce the tie-breaker round into play. A stunning show from the booming Pole starlet earned her a stupendous lead of 3-0 in the tie-breaker. She carried the momentum further and just lost one
point before cruising away with a lead of one set.
The second set witnessed a cracking start at both ends. Radwanska was first tested on her serve but she did well to hang on and deny her opponent from an early breakthrough. She turned the tables on her rival in the following game
but couldn’t convert either of the two allotted opportunities to break serve.
She faced a rigorous resistance from her rival who was close on breaking her serve but a save on three different occasions helped the Pole to hold serve. Czink failed to win a single point on her serve and gifted a breakthrough
to her rival who made it 4-1 with a serve hold.
Three back-to-back breakpoints in the set yielded a date with Mandy Minella for Radwanska.
