Urszula Radwanska routs Andrea Hlavackova to march into the main round – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Urszula Radwanska of Poland worked hard to join her elder sister, Agnieszka Radwanska, in the main draw of the Sony Ericsson Open. She expelled the 25-years-old Czech contestant, Andrea Hlavackova, in a taxing three-setter; lost
the first set but came back to leave victorious at hard courts of Miami. Final scores were 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
The match started in stylish fashion for the Pole who broke serve in the second game to take a lead. However, her opponent wasted little time in ousting her back in the fifth game and tying scores at 3-3. Luckily for her, she was
gifted a breakpoint in the seventh game of the match that proved enough for the Pole who gobbled up the first set victory in style.
Unluckily for the 98th ranked Pole, she was broken in the first game of the second set that set the tone for her opponent. Hlavackova kept the lead intact for quite some time before the Pole jumped back into the contest
with a breakthrough in the sixth game. A dramatic fight in the seventh game reinstated the lead for the Czech.
Radwanska broke serve in the 10th game to tie the scores at 5-5 and keep the set alive. Unfortunately, she was broken in the 12th game of the set that finally enforced the third set into play.
It was an interesting start to the third set with an exchange of breakthroughs at both ends. However, there was nothing afterwards for the Czech who was broken twice on the trot that diminished all chances of her comeback. She
lost the match and Radwanska marched on.
Urszula Radwanska will take on the likes of Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine.
The defending champion of the tournament, Victoria Azarenka, is currently on a 23 match unbeaten run. She has a Bye for the first round and awaits the winners of the match between the qualifier, Eva Birnerova, and the Dutch contestant,
Michaella Krajicek. It will be interesting to see how the reigning world number one tackles with the rivals in Miami and takes on the challenge of defending her title.
