Urszula Radwanska sends Akgul Ammanuradova packing in 2nd Round – Tashkent open 2011
The unseeded Pole Urszula Radwanska clashed against the home favourite Akgul Ammanuradova during the second round of the Tashkent Open 2011. The two duelled on hard courts of the Olympic School Tennis Courts for 2 hours and 19 minutes, until Radwanska won the match by bouncing back from a set down of 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3.
The two had previously contested right here, at the same venue in 2008, Radwanska had defeated Amanmuradova in straight sets to take a lead in their head-to-head. This was a chance presented to Amanmuradova to avenge her loss, but alas!
Subsequently after winning the toss, the players won on their respective serves in the first ten games to round off the score at 5-5.  In the following two games the player’s broke each other once back-to-back and pushed the set to a tie breaker.
Shaking off the local, Amanmuradova raced to a 5-0 lead breaking her opponent twice. From there on the two players continued to win on their service with the home girl serving out the set at 6-5 to clinch the tiebreaker win.
Opening the second set was the Pole, and as she held her serve in the first game, she went on to break her opponent in the second and by the third game had taken a lead of 3-0. Woes continued for Amanmuradova as she once again served poorly and miss-judged a couple of shots to gift away the crucial break to Radwanska, who led with a 3-0 in the first set. In the following three games the players broke each other back-to-back.
During the seventh game Radwanska was again broken and as Amanmuradova held her serve in the eighth game the score was tied at 4-4. In the tenth game Radwanska won a game on her serve and was now looking to break Amanmuradova to bag her first set. Amanmuradova tried to smack her forehand shot with full power, but ended up sending it long and thus endorsed the game point to her opponent.
By the end of the third set the players had clogged a set apiece and serving for the third set was again Radwanska and during the first three games the players held their serves. During the fourth game the first to break was Radwanska and took the lead 3-1. It was only a mini lead as Amanmuradova’s confidence was boosted by the crowd and she broke back in the following game. In the sixth game the players rounded off the score to 3-3. Radwanska in the last three games broke Amanmuradova once more and as she held her serve, she won the set and the match.
Radwanska will now be facing Eleni Daniilidou in the quarter final.
