Urszula Radwanska vaporises Corinna Dentoni in the opening round – Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge 2011
Pole Urszula Radwanska ravaged past Italy’s Corinna Dentoni with double bagels at the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge 2011, an ITF women’s circuit event taking place on the hard courts in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She barely sweated
against the 22-year-old Italian and cruised into the second round on Tuesday.
Sister of the world number eight Agnieszka, the pole re-created her 2009 magic, when she was at her career best rank at sixty-two, to completely destroy the Italian without losing a single game. After maintaining her winning record
against the Italian (they last met at Kunming ITF event three years ago), Radwanska got one step closer to $75,000 prize money and her maiden title this season.
The high flying Pole breezed into the Dubai hard courts and after bombarding powerful groundstrokes, she reeled off first six games in a row. She held entire serves through her exceptional defensive skills and broke Dentoni’s serve
three times to earn the first bagel.
20-year-old Pole kept momentum sailing into the final set. She maintained consistency in her game to go on a six games killing spree again and pulled out the second bagel in under half hour. Radwanska smoothly kept her entire serves
after facing zero breakpoint and cashed in three out of many breakpoint chances to her advantage.
Summing up Radwanska’s performance, she dominated throughout the match and spilled few errors. She also formulated an amazing first serve share and return points winning share.
The Pole had a monotonous season so far. She started her season with a disappointing loss in the qualifiers of the Australian Open, standing at world number 193. She managed to pocked some matches but fell to a six match losing
streak before finding her rhythm in July. Radwanska then re-ignited her spark and made quarter-final berths at Contrexeville, Vancouver and Guangzhou ITF events, and made a last four showing at Tashkent WTA International event. As a result, she entered this
tournament confidently after standing at number 109 rank in the WTA rankings.
Next up for Radwanska is the fourth seeded Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru who crippled Omani wild card entrant Fatma Al Nabhani with a bagel to set-up this clash.
The Omani fought back hard in the opener as she kept entire serves and dragged the set to a tie-breaker. However, she prevailed in it and lost the opening set with a 6-7(6) defeat. Al Nabhani then stepped off gas in the final set
and subsequently received a bagel.
The seed on the other hand required almost an hour to seal the deal with a 7-6(6), 6-0 victory.
