Uruguay can defeat France in world cup with Diego Forlan and Ajax Luis

After gaining its qualification in a playoff game against Costa Rica, Uruguay is playing its 11th World Cup. It is a team hard to play against and has a variety of weapons to score.

Uruguay is in group A and will face France, Mexico and the host nation, South Africa. The team that won the first ever World Cup in 1930 has a strong physical defense and players that can wreak havoc on any team at any time. Ask France when they met them in the 2002 World Cup and in a friendly game in 2008: both games finished in a tie.

Uruguay is more than capable to outplay France especially that the French team is in turmoil, an advantage that Uruguay will gladly take. The offensive potential of Uruguay is strong with 2 deadly weapons up front. Atletico Madrid's Diego Forlan and Ajax's Luis Suarez are important components of Uruguay's game. France, Mexico and South Africa need to worry facing a team that no one talks about but is a true soccer nation, hard to destabilize.

La Celeste is led by 62 year old Oscar Washington Tabarez who took Uruguay to the round of 16 by Italy, in the 1990 World Cup in Italy. He came back at the reign of Uruguay since 2006 when the Celeste missed out the 2006 World Cup after losing to Australia in a playoff game.

Group matchups

Uruguay is in group A with France, Mexico and South Africa. The odds for Uruguay to make it to the round of 16 are 1.85. The odds reflects Uruguay strong chances to make it to the next round. But their chances of not making it are as strong with odds of not making it are also at 1.85. It will be basically 50/50 for Uruguay to qualify.

Uruguay's first game will be on June 11th against France. France are favorites to win the game with 2. Betting on a Uruguay victory pays 3.9 and it is a strong possibility. A tie pays 3.10 and both teams are capable of annulling each other. Uruguay's attack is capable of scoring but their defense might not hold off a strong yet disorganized French attack.

Their next game is against host nation South Africa. South Africa might be a weaker team but it is always hard to play the host nation. South African will have the support of the crowd and the support of the referee. It is an untold fact that the host team is favored by the referee. An Uruguay victory pays 2.25 and a tie 3.20. If Uruguay proves to be opportunistic in front of the net, they could seal the deal and quiet down the crowd very quickly.

Their third and last game will be against Mexico on June 22nd. Both teams are evenly matched up as win gives 2.60 and a tie 3.20. Both teams have similar style of play that involves a physical defense and a quick counter attacking style. They both can generate offense at will but also lack discipline. This game could be a highly tense game as it might be the game that takes either team to the next round.

Uruguay's goal is to make it to the next round and are very confident in their chances.

Other bets

Oddsmakers have set Diego Forlan being Uruguay's top goal scorer at 3.25. Uruguay will depend on Forlan to provide the firepower and the goals. He will be supported by Luis Suarez with odds of being the Celeste's top goal scorer are at 5. Uruguay will need to be opportunistic to increase their chances to make it to the next round and will also need a disciplined and concentrated defense.
