Uruguay international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Lugano arrives at Paris Saint-Germain – official report
Turkish club Fenerbahce have confirmed that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 international Diego Lugano has arrived at Paris Saint-Germain.
Paris Saint-Germain have been on the lookout for a new defender since the injury to star defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-c22056 wanted to recruit a world-class
defender who could pair up with Bisevac.
For a few days, Les Parisiens were linked with a move for Lugano. However, it seemed unlikely for the Uruguayan to join the French Ligue 1 giants following interest from Italian Serie A side Juventus. Lugano had earlier indicated his preference of Juventus.
However, Juventus were not willing to match Fenerbahce’s asking price for the experienced defender. The Turkish giants were looking for at least 3 million Euros for the services of the 30-year-old centre-back.
Reports suggest that the transfer has cost Paris Saint-Germain just 3.5 million Euros which is a great bargain for a club that could have paid even more for such a good defender had Fenerbahce asked for more.
A statement on Fenerbahce’s official website read, “After five years of loyal service to Fenerbahce, Diego Lugano has signed an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. We thank him for his efforts and wish him well in his life as a footballer. Lugano has demonstrated
boundless energy and commitment which we will never forget. Diego, may God be with you.”
Lugano also confirmed the new via his twitter account in a post that said, “I am happy to take on a new challenge at a super club like Paris.”
Following the match-fixing scandal, Fenerbahce are looking more and more likely to be demoted to second tier Turkish football which means that the Turkish giants would be forced to let go of a few of their star players.
The reigning Turkish champions’ defender Lugano never really wanted to leave Sarı Kanaryalar but the recent match-fixing scandal has forced the 30-year-old to leave the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
