This time the Uruguayan full back’s chip was over hit as Holland cleared the ball away.
In the 24th minute, Diego Perez was booked by the referee for a rash challenge on Dirk Kuyt near the half way line. In the 25th minute, Holland lost the ball inside their own penalty area as Suarez tried to play in Cavani. But the young goal scorer’s header was miraculously cleared off the line by Pieters who took up an intelligent position behind Tim Krul.

Huntelaar carried the ball forwards and then switched the play towards Robin Van Persie whose eventual finish was well wide of the mark. Thus the first half finally came to an end with the score line at nil all. It was a good first half for Holland who created most of the goal scoring chances but their finishing let them down in the final third of the field.
