Uruguay’s Men’s team clinch Pan American Challenge Cup title defeating Brazil 3-1 – Hockey Update
The Pan American Challenge Cup hockey tournament has been concluded at the Deodoro Hockey Complex in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where Uruguay Men’s team defeated their Brazilian counterparts by 3-1 in the final of the tournament played on Sunday, August 7.
The match proved a tough battle between the sides that remained undefeated throughout the event. The match was a furious fight between the two talented teams who played astonishing hockey throughout the match by creating a number of good scoring chances.
Although the match was evenly balanced between the opponents in the first half yet it was Uruguay who took the lead in the first thirty five minutes and capitalised on it in the second half where they further made a double strike while their opponents could
score only a single goal.
The first half was a very close contest between the sides especially the first twenty five minutes were really thrilling as no one allowed each other to do any damage in opposite’s circle but it was Uruguay that broke the deadlock in the 26th
minute when Sebastian Castillo scored the opener for Uruguay which lasted till the interval.
The second half also depicted the similar story as Brazil showed some good attacking moves in reply to the Uruguay attack but it was again Uruguay that scored their second goal when Ignacio Costas scored a wonderful field goal in the 47th minute
and doubled their lead. Just minutes after second Uruguay goal, the hosts Brazil found their way to the Uruguay’s goalpost and score their opener, thus reduced Uruguay’s lead to single strike. However, Uruguay’s athletes did not stop their efforts and they
consistently put pressure on the Brazilian defence. Their tactics worked for them and they came across a scoring opportunity when they were awarded a penalty corner just a minute before the end of the match. Juan Manuel Canessa made no mistake in converting
the penalty corner into their third goal. The match was concluded at 3-1 to Uruguay that led them to confirm their place in the 2013 Pan American Cup.
The Brazilian Men also succeeded to qualify for the 2013 Pan American Cup hockey tournament alongside the winner, Uruguay, after finishing at the second place in the event.
