  1. JML, I wouldn't worry at all about your past GCSE result, if you take a look at some university websites you will see that the majority only require a 'high school diploma or equivalent'  - your GCSE grades regardless of the actual grade achieved serve this purpose.

However you will also find that many of the universities you may be interested in also require you to take the SAT I and the competitive schools also require the SAT II: Subject tests, if your school does require these then the basis of your acceptance will be based on the results of those.

If you want the blunt truth, even A-levels in the States mean diddly squat when applying for universities, if you have them then that add strength to your case but they are not overly important.

All they will require for admission is the following:

    - Proof that you graduated from high school (GCSCE results)

    - Proof that you can afford the cost of tuition an living expenses (bank statements)

    - SAT I and/or SAT: II (if applicable)

    - Transcripts from any other college or university you have attended (if applicable).

    Good luck.

  2. No I don't think you are screwed. It may well be that your results at your current institution will be considered for admission. Also, if you have been out of secondary school ("high school" in North America) even for a short time you might be eligible for admission as what is known as a mature student, for whom past grades are not as or at all important. You'll have to look around a bit at the websites of US colleges/universities which interest you and perhaps even e-mail the office of admissions of any you might consider applying to, asking their policies in this regard.

    Good luck.

  4. To be perfectly honest, the US has such an incredible diversity of schools in great numbers, so you have a strong chance of finding a school that will accept you.  However, it will take research to find the school that fits you.

Good luck!!  US students need more contact with people from other countries, so I can't wait for you to get here.
