I have been working as a nanny for us family 2years on my J-1 exchange program visa. I am going back to Czech Republic in couple weeks and applying for F-1 for spring semester. They are going to be my sponsor for student visa, but they are not my relatives. Is there a chance to get it? What kind of documents do I need from them?

  1. You'd have to show a letter from them promising to pay (and why they want to pay)  your tuition and expenses, plus some evidence of their ability to actually pay. Certainly, an Affidavit of Support, or I-864, which can be obtained on line through uscis.gov would help.  Now, there's no guarantee that this would be accepted since they aren't relatives, but you do have a chance.

  2. Get an affidavit of support from them.  You need an I-20 from the school that has accepted you as an international student.

  3. Be certain that you are exempt from the two-year foreign residency requirement...
