Ill probably be moving to America with my mother next year and i want to go to university but i cant figure out what school results i need to have.. I got 9 honours in my junior cert (im not even sure if thats counted) and 515 points in my leaving cert. But i cant find out what my leaving cert results are "worth" in american terms. Ive looked at a few university websites and all they say are you need “high standard” grades or stuff about GPA I don’t understand. But what exactly is high? I want to study to be a vet or maybe biology so how high? Also im worried because they also say I need at least four years transcripts of school grades but theres no such thing from my school. We did exams at the end of the year but it was very informal and no records were ever kept. There was no report cards the only thing I have is my junior and leaving cert results I contacted my school and they confirmed that’s all there is.

My actual results in grades are:

Junior cert - maths, English, Irish,

  1. You will have to take the SATs for an American University and get a few teachers to write letters of reccomendation.

I'm not very conversant with leaving cert marks, but I studied at both Irish and American universities and if it helps a 1st in Ire= 3.8-4.0 US, a 2.1 Ire= 3.5-3.7 US, a 2.2 Ire=3.0-3.4, a 3 Ire= 2.0-2.9 US.  You look like you have about a 3.0 based on your leaving cert.

I don't think you have the marks to get into a vet program for undergrad.  Those are some of the most competitive programs in the country and low science marks would seriously count againist you.  You would be able to get into some kind of university though.

If you heart is set on vet school, I'd apply to a few plus several community colleges or other universities to do science.  After a year of college science, you'd have a better shot a vet program.
