Usain Bolt pulls out of the Commonwealth Games 2010
Currently twenty four years of age, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has the honour of being one of the most prominent and distinguished personalities, not just in the field of athletics, but also in the arena of worldwide sports.
This is clearly not surprising, considering Usain Bolt has managed to win gold medals thrice at the Olympics. The Beijing Olympics in 2008 proved to be the most fruitful event of his career, as he managed to set world records for the hundred meters, the two hundred meters, and together with his teammates in the four hundred meters relay race.
This tournament also provided him with the distinction of being the first ever athlete since 1984 to be crowned successful at three sprinting events at a single Olympics. While the Olympics remain the pinnacle of Usain Bolt’s athletic career, it is certainly not the only event at which he has displayed his athletic excellence.
The 2002 World Junior Championships provided Bolt with a gold medal in the arena of two hundred meters, making him the youngest ever athlete to win gold at the prestigious tournament.
The CARIFTA Games in 2004 granted Bolt with another opportunity to further mark his personal territory as he set a record to his name, accomplishing the feat of becoming the first ever junior sprinter to run for two hundred meters with a completion time of 19.93 seconds.
Just recently, in 2009, Usain Bolt displayed his athletic charm again as he lowered his own hundred meters and 200 hundred meters world records to 9.58 seconds and 19.19 seconds respectively. It is therefore no surprise that he has been nicknamed the “Lightning Bolt,” a name he earned in lieu of his amazingly sharp athletic skills and inhumane speed in the field of sprinting.
It therefore comes as a huge blow to his vast fan following ranging all over the world that Usain Bolt will be unable to compete in the Commonwealth Games to be held in India this year from October 3rd to October 14th.
While one thought this would be it, a recent announcement has allowed everyone to discover that the Lightning Bolt will also be unable to compete in Jamaica’s national championships to be held next weekend.
While his coach Glen Mills insists it has absolutely nothing to do with an Achilles tendon injury Bolt had been suffering from, one finds it hard to absorb the fact that this star athlete would pull out from another tournament otherwise.
However, there is definite talk about Bolt missing the upcoming tournaments in an attempt to focus more on the London Olympics to be staged in 2010.
Though it does come as a considerable amount of disappointment that Usain Bolt will be unable to perform at these tournaments, owing to the fact that it is always fascinating to view his athletic excellence and physical strength, at the same time one hopes that this decision is really due to his need to concentrate more on the Olympics and not due to his injury, which did prevent him from participating in the recent Samsung Diamond League event in New York.
One hopes that this break assists Usain Bolt in his preparations for the London Olympics and he is able to surpass the records he set at the previous Olympics.
