Usain Bolt set to encounter a high-profile field at Monaco – Athletics news
Usain Bolt, the fastest man on earth from Jamaica, has established a name that leaves his rivals over-awed. However, while making his first ever appearance at the Samsung Diamond League Herculis 2011 Meeting, he will have to travel an extra mile for displaying
a quality performance as the field he is expected encounter at the event is comprised of some of the high-profile athletes of the world.
Despite his splendid form and matchless fitness, appearing at a star-studded event will be no less than a challenge for the Jamaican. Thanks to the formidable field that has been put together by organisers to make the event a success, the interest of spectators
will be there in every athletic discipline that will be contested in the Stade Louis II Stadium.
However, the event that is expected to leave its viewers on their toes is the 400m hurdling line-up, where the reigning world, Olympic and European champions will grapple each other for a top finish on the podium. Starring athletes like Angelo Taylor, the
Olympic and world champion from USA along with Kerron Clement and UK’s David Greene, who has been a European champion and the most prominent pace setter at the Samsung Diamond League, the contest will witness a worth watching battle on the track.
Some other big names which are to appear on the field are comprised of American trio Bershawn Jackson, Jeshua Anderson and the world junior silver medal winner, Johnny Dutch. The big name that must be threatening rivals for the run is LJ Van Zyl, who depicted
an impressive performance at the Doha run and also the meet in Rome.
Zyl, for observing a finish of 47.66 seconds, has established himself as the fastest runner of the year for the given distance. The athlete who will prompt him to give out his best on the track is none other than Cornell Fredericks.
Excited about having such a high-profile field, particularly for having Bolt in it, Jean-Pierre Schoebel, the director of the event, said, “I am very proud and pleased that Usain Bolt is here and that is a massive promotion for the meeting. He is very welcome
and well all look forward to his first ever appearance. But I have not just focused on getting him here and I have done my best to invite so many other great athletes and delighted they have accepted to come.”
He was of the view that though every meet was a world-class event, it was a fact that the field events were not that popular among the spectators around the world. However, the effort to put together a great line-up will definitely address this issue in
Monaco.
