Usain Bolt to run 100m at Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava – IAAF World Challenge
Czech Republic – Usain Bolt, the fastest athlete from Jamaica, has confirmed his participation in the 100m run at the Jubilee 50th edition of the Golden Spike meeting to be held in Ostrava on May 31st.
For Bolt, this is the second time that the World champion and Olympian has decided to appear in the Ostrava contest which is an IAAF World Challenge meeting. Appearing on the track, this season, it will be his second 100m race.
Talking about the Ostrava competition in 2009, the “Lightening Bolt”, who had set his fastest record of 9.58 later that summer in the Berlin World Championships, said, “I ran 9.77 seconds in Ostrava in 2009 with a +2.1 wind”.
However, he hoped that the wind and weather conditions would be supportive for displaying a favourable performance this year.
Revealing about his future plans for the upcoming events, the fastest sprinter of the world said that he was planning to appear in his first 100m run of the season in Rome, which will be followed by the Ostrava event and then he will opt for a 200m contest
in Oslo.
Bolt’s participation in Ostrava at the end of this month, will be the fourth time the young Jamaican is appearing in the eastern Czech city. Besides his 100m victory on the track, earned back in 2009, the 24-year-old athlete has twice participated in the
200m run, in 2006 and 2008, clocking, 20.28 and 19.83, respectively.
Last year, he also ran in a 300m contest, where he clocked 30.97 seconds and emerged as the fastest performer ever for that distance.
Other events and dates which have been confirmed so far by the sprinter include the Samsung Diamond League fixture to be held on July 8th in Paris, along with the Monaco event after a break of 14 days (on July 22nd).
In both contests, the stellar track performer will run for 200m and 100m distances, respectively.
