why do i have to use a usb cord to connect my main computer and i cant use a ethernet

I'm guessing that you are connected to a cable modem by a USB cord?

And why you are not connected by ethernet? It's kind of hard for me to say.

Does your computer have an ethernet card? Is there a place on the back to plug in an ethernet cable? Do you have an ethernet cable?

If so, swap it out if you like. Then reboot your computer and maybe turn off your cable modem for a minute or so and turn it back on.

Can you explain further?

You can use Ethernet to connect multiple computers if each computer has a network adapter card in them.  You can easily setup a small home office network and to access the internet too if you have a router and high speed cable modem, or DSL connection.
