Usb ports quit working in gateway laptop

Question

I have a gateway6520gz laptop running windows xp and about 3 weeks ago all 4 of my usb ports just up and quit working. The only thing I had plugged in was a usb mouse. I tried plugging in my printer thru the usb ports but nothing. The device manager shows them says there is nothing wrong. I did a restore with backup and a destructive restore I also reinstalled the chipset drivers I also went into the bios setting and disabled them tried that then went back into bios and enabled them. I have tried everything but replacing the motherboard. The computer is a dec 2005 model with an upgraded memory to 1gig.
