Question:

Use Maaco for better resale?

I'm planning to sell my car but before I do I think it would help to get the car painted first. The paint looks okay(some areas look better then others) but I do have some oxidation on the roof, plus a few scratches. I want to ask to all that have ever gotten a $400 (or in that price range) paint job (hella broke!) and what they thought of it. I don't need the paint lasting me 5 years may be just a few weeks? I'm planning to paint the car to make it look presentable and sell it ASAP. As long as the paint job looks decent I'll be fine with it.

  1. Just clean it up and sell it. Not worth the time and $$$ to paint it.

  2. Getting a car painted at Maaco will not increase your car's resale value or the amount a dealer gives you for a trade-in.  In fact, most would probably laugh behind your back if you painted a car right before trading it in.

Save your $400 and clean it up the best you can. You can use the $400 toward your down payment.

  3. The big thing to consider is will the new paint increase the value more than $400?  If you are just going to break even, I say skip the new paint, and use a little elbow grease and throw on a good coat of wax.  You could even pay a lot less than the new paint to have a detailer buff it out for you.  Those guys can do wonders if the paint is just oxidized or has minor scratches.  Save your money if you are just going to be selling the car, and get it as nice as you can for as cheap as you can.

    Good luck
