  1. it would be possible if you are strong enough and have alot of stamina

  2. The blanket would have to be the size and of a similar light material as the parachute.  That would have to be some pretty large blanket.  Do you know how big a parachute is?

And, you would have to be very lucky that the blanket would deploy in just the right configuration as a parachute WITHOUT the advantages of guy line, holding the chute in the proper shape.

And, you'd have to be pretty strong to be able to hold on to the blanket when if, finally, popped open.  That is a pretty strong shock.  Just imagine how long you could hold on to a blanket edge, just hanging in place.  Now imagine the difficulty of holding on and NOT letting evene ONE corner go.

Here's a thought experiment.  You are on the roof of a one story house.  You tie one end of the blanket to the chiminy.  You take hold of the other end and jump straight off of the roof.  Do you trust that you would be able to hold on to the blanket when you reached the end of your fall?

  3. Well if you really wanna see you should try it. Don't worry if it doesnt work at least everyone else who wanted to try it will know if it works or not.

  4. nope too heavy

think about a kite, could you make a kite out of a blanket?

On the MythBusters Tv Show they showed that It might be possible to fall from a plane in a large life raft as seen in the Indiana Jones movie but that you probably would not be able to inflate it and hold on.

  5. It wouldn't catch enough air to do anything. It's like using an umbrella. Too small.

  6. Yes, if the material for your blanket is the exact kind used to make parachutes

  7. if you would have time to tie it to both legs and arms it may slow you a little but I doubt if it would be enough to prevent death. I tried this when I was a kid jumping of a barn beam into a stack of hay and there was no noticable difference with or without the blanket.
