    Work:

    x^2+22x+117=0

    x^2=22x= -117

    22x/2=11, then sq 11 and it'll give u 121.

    add 121 to both sides--> x^2+121= -117 +121

    then simplify the  x^2+121 to (x+11)^2 and add 121 to -117

    so (x+11)^2= 4--> square root both sides and you'll have

    x+11= (+or -)2

    then solve for x

    x= -11+2--->9

    x= -11-2--->-13

    so x= -9 and -13
