  1. ummm the Constitution........strictly prohibits the use of the military on US soil inless its the national guard witch is considered the militia

  2. Like others have stated the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act prevents the federal government from using the military as police on U.S. soil against citizens. This is to protect citizens and to prevent military coups.

Though if an enemy attacked us then it is all over! We are armed and ready. We can and will defend our own soil from invasion or terror threat. There were military bombers in the air after 9-11.

Another domestic reason is natural disaster. The military can and do help re-build and clean up after a bad storm or other event. They can set up tents and help with injured people.

However, the National Guard may be called to restore order by a governor. Then the National Guard is acting as a state militia. This would be to prevent looting and riots or in case of a national disaster.

  3. U.S. Law 18 USC sec 1385, commonly referred to as the Posse Comitatus Act that prohibits the military from law enforcement on non-federal property.

  4. No law does.

  5. Do you mean something like deploy the Army to say Virginia to secure it, from The US for the US?

  6. I did not know there was such a law..

During the riots here in Los Angles in 1992 US Marines from camp pendtleton were on the streets here armed with weapons..So there are exceptions to the rule if there is one.

  7. the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act forbids the deployment of the United States Army on United States soil for domestic law enforcement. This was put into place to prevent a military dictatorship.

  8. Depends what they're being deployed to do.  They cannot be deployed as a police force, other than that they can be deployed wherever they're needed.

  9. Is this what you are thinking about ?

    posse comitatus act ?

  10. The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878. Federal troops can only be sent to assist local forces when the President receives and approves a request from that State's Governor that the situation is beyond the control of local forces. It's the law which applies when they send Federal troops into an area where a hurricane or other natural disaster has happened.
