Use of reset button?

Have just replaced my Compaq Presario SR5340 computer case with a Raidmax Smilodon Gaming case as part of an upgrade where a Gigabyte Hd3870 graphics card and a Creative Soundblaster XFi xtreme gamer pro card were installed.The gaming case came with a number of front panel connectors one of which was for a reset button .My question is can I connect the reset connector to my motherboard which is an ASUS IPILB-LB Benicia and if I do what would be the use for it .My system runs on Vista Home Premium 32 bit I have never had a reset button on a computer before so whats the benefit Thanks

The reset button comes from older times when we need to get around system freezes.  Back then, (Win98, etc) when the system froze we would simply hit the reset button to reboot Window.  

Explanation:  The "Power" button starts a computer that is off.  This is called "Cold Boot", ie, it does not reload the BIOS.  The "Reset" button only restarts Windows, and does not restart the motherboard.  This is called "Hot Booting".  

With today's operating systems, it is used very little.  You can connect the two wires from the restart button to the "Restart" pins on the motherboard.  It will do no damage.

yes hook it up....by pressing reset button your pc will reboot....know need to hold power button in to shut it down then restart.....
