Used car help (sable)?

im about to buy a 1999 red sable for 2500 at a used car lot

it looks great and is in mint condition

but my mom doesnt want me to get it because she thinks the car is going to fall apart. Anyone know anything about 1999 sables?

  1. Used car lot is not the place to buy a car especially if you dont know what to look for as far as problems.

  2. it really all depends on the particular car. it depends on who owned it last and how they treated it....did they maintain the regular maintenance (i.e. oil changes, brakes/rotors, fuild fill ups, etc) ? have you test driven the car ?(how does it sound?)is the car inspected and if so by whom? it would really help to find someone like an uncle or friend that knows alot about cars so they can get down and look under the car (for rust and wear/tear) and test drive it. $2,500 sounds like alot for a 1999....how many miles are on it? If its anything over 100,000 miles i wouldn't pay more than $1,000 for it. the more miles it has the more problems it could have.

  3. your mom is right, mercury is owned by ford and fords fall apart from the inside out, i wouldnt get it!
