Is it something I am doing wrong or have they changed new TVs to not get all the channels from the cable wire?

  1. Go into your new TV's menu system and change the input from antenna to cable.

In analog cable systems, cable and over the air channels 2-13 use identical. However over the air channels 14-69 are not the same as analog cable 14-69.

  2. make sure you have the cable screwed into the right  barrell fitting on the back of the tv some have 1 for cable and 1 for antenna

  3. 1st.  He meant to make sure the cable wire is plugged into the "cable slot" and not the antenna slot.

2nd.  Under the menu, where you go to auto select the channels you should have a setting of STD, ICR or HCR cable signals.  It's probably STD, but check with your cable company to be sure.  This needs to be set correctly before the auto-scan.
