Used verizon phone activation...help please?

I am getting one of my friend's old phones and i dont know how to activate it online, i have Verizon so its difficult. The phone is unlocked and everything but will it work?

If it is a verizon phone.  I would just call the verizon customer care number.  They are always very helpful.
