I am a regular speaker and get invited to many functions. I am looking for a light portable powerful P A system with one or two at the most speakers. It should also be capable of playing a CD. What system would you recommend?

  2. I've always preferred BOGEN amps for PA systems...They will never be lightweight....but they will never fail, unless you short the speaker wires together....

  3. Generically what you want is a called a "powered speaker".  This is a speaker that has an amplifier and mixer built in.  They are great becuase it is basically a complete PA system in one box.  There are a lot of choices and it would depend on the typical audience size etc.

I have been using the JBL Eon models for years and they are very durable and sound great!  The JBL Eon 10 would be a good choice for audiences up to 250 or so.

Of course there are more expensive and less expensive speakers out there too.  I have also had good luck with the less expensive Behringer powered speakers.

A speaker, stand and microphone would be the minimun requirements.  Wireless lapel microphones are used by many speakers also.

Your best bet would be to go to a musical instrument store that sells PA equipment and let them steer you the right way.
