Two main models of exist currently- a

user-pay: pay-as-you-go, low income tax, moderate consumption tax, minimal government interaction with the private individual

or

a socialist-lite welfare state where state is considered to have duty to all to provide employment, health, higher personal taxation, etc

Both have strengths and weaknesses over the other.

Which one would you choose/opt into and why?

  1. No socialism, we can fix our problems but not with that.

  2. I guess the second one because the first didn't work out to well.  The government doesn't get involved at all as it is, remember Katrina?  I can't figure out why we even pay  any taxes....

  3. pay as you go every time . i went to a private hospital as a patient it was clean , good food, friendly staff . the NHS nurses do a mint job but they are over worked and under staffed due to government incompetence

  4. I would go for B, as i dont know where i would be without the NHS.

So many people moan about the state of the NHS, but they take it for granted.

I hate the way that the Americans cant go the the doctor if they cant afford it.

EVERYONE deserves a free health system.

PS- in a survey in the UK a few years ago, 88% of British people said that they would rather they paid more tax than get rid of the NHS.

  5. I would have to go for the 1st model as todays world is not the one that Beven's idea can work in with such a large waves of immigration etc. Unless all countries have a free at source service.

  6. I would prefer a 3rd option.  A completely voluntary model where there are no taxes and all interactions are peaceful and voluntary.  I reject both the Utopian fantasy of "limited" government and the disaster that is socialism (whether it is of the "liberal," "conservative," "fascist," "national socialist," or "Marxist" varieties or any other variety of socialism).

The choice is not between socialism and limited government.  Due to the trend of all governments to increase their power constantly and the complete ineffectiveness of gimmicks such as constitutions, the only 2 realistic possibilities are socialism (ie. totalitarianism) and anarchy (ie. freedom).  An Anarchist society is free and prosperous.  A Socialist society is enslaved and impoverished.  Any sane person would choose Anarchy as the eventual goal, not the totalitarian ant-heap of socialism.

  7. I like the one we have in America: the deat beat father is responsible for that debt.

  8. A isn't working.....B is working in every other developed nation in the world.
