there are over 100 sensors just on a combine.  ...grain moisture meters to speed sensors to GPS to the engine electronics to bin  level indicators to the cd player.       this could be an almost infinite answer question from the field to feedlot to the Chicago Board of Trade/Merchantile Exchange to the consumer.

Electronics are used extensively in agriculture. GPS systems together with laser guidance systems can give you different rates of fertilizer as you travel down the field to correspond with the actual rate required based on the soil tests. Electronics enables the dairy farmer to feed each cow the exact ration of feed she needs based on the amount of milk she gives. Computers are used as record keeping, plus letting thew farmer keep an eye on every aspect of his farming practices to prevent waste and help control pollution by using excess fertilizer and causing run off of extra nutrients. They are used in harvesting equipment to monitor yields through the field while harvesting. Electronics use in agriculture is a newer concept than in other areas of commerce, but is catching up rapidly. You will be seeing more electronics in agriculture in the future.

Basic GPS is an invaluable tool when a farm requires a map and the information gathered needs accurate correlation. Satellite up-link/ down-link supports this large and expensive equipment by analysis of the equipment to alert the owner/ operator of any mechanical conditions that are out of the parameters in it's operation. The links also help to analyze harvests and track what an area is producing and that information is used to guide the farm operations. With wind electric machines becoming a significant revenue source in agriculture I find it interesting to observe that the turbines are computing and adjusting blade angle several times a second, and field coil current giving as much as 14% more power from the same tower and turbine.

The grid allows only a defined maximum output, so the computer has to control dumping of any excess so that the generator can continue to sell its maximum rated capacity.

The electronics required to hook up to the grid are like a black box mandated by the grid.
