  1. most all subs and nearly all air craft carriers are nuclear. the support ships run on diesel fuel. look up on janes for complete info on everything military.

  2. used for destroying enemies

    fuel is diesel

  3. They are used as both "offensive, and defensive" weapons in war.

Most of the newer submarines use nuclear power for propulsion, and many of the older ones used diesel for their power....

  4. they are used in defence and in war. mostly disel

  5. the most efective submarines are diesel electric because they are quieter however nuclear subs are driven by boilers and steam turbines and are faster but noisier

  6. The uses of submarines are varied and can depend on the type of submarine.  For example: nuclear deterrent, attacking/defending against other submarines and/or surface ships, cruise missile launches, insertion of special forces (SEALs), intelligence collection, etc.

All current U.S. submarines use nuclear power, which uses uranium, for their main propulsion.  They also carry diesel fuel to run their diesel generators, which are a backup power supply.  Other countries have submarines which use diesel/electric propulsion.  One of the many downsides to using diesel electric submarines is that they have to run their diesel engines to recharge their batteries.  While running on their diesels they are vulnerable and loud.  They also have a more limited range.  They are good for coastal defense though.
