I bought traveler's checks in America. I plan to use them in Canada. If something costs $100, do I give them one of my $100 checks, or do I have to convert the price from American to Canadian dollars?

  1. Most places will accept Traveler's cheques in American dollars... not all though, so be sure you have some Canadian cash. They will convert it to Canadian dollars. Sometimes they use the current exchange rate, but usually they have a set rate, which may not always be the best exchange rate.

  2. Most stores will do the converting themselves. If a $100 C$ item costs $105U$, the cashier will tell you that. You shouldn't have to do any converting yourself. Of course, any change you get will be in C$ but it's not usually a problem.
