Question:

Using Bi-wirable speakers?

I recently bought a set of home cinema speakers which are all bi-wirable. A guy in the shop told me there was no point in bi-wiring them unless I had an amp with a pre-amp in it. Is this true? Other people have told me that bi-wiring sounds better whatever amp you use.

  1. Greetings, The term is Bi-amping and the option of bi-amping is a very good one. An amplifier must work must harder and is much less accurate when is reproduces the entire frequency range. When a Bi-amp system is used, a device called a crossover is put in place that divides the freq's into high and low groups. The product of the crossover is then sent to separate amps. The product of the amp's is then sent to the proper speaker. It is common to use two stereo amps. One for the left and right lows and one for left and right highs.

In your case and your application, this may not make sense to do. You would need to get a crossover and it would have to be set correctly.

It could be that the crossover is built into the speakers. If this is the case, for the cost of two separate stereo amps, I think you would enjoy the benefit.

       Good luck

  2. Bi wiring doesn't really change the way your speakers will sound, all bi wiring does it requires a separate amp for each of your speakers, one for the tweeter and one for the mid-range or woofer.
