Question:

Using HDMI instead of coax for cable/video/audio connection?

I have a HDTV with HDMI connection only. It is wall mounted and cabling is behind drywall (not accessible). The other end of the HDMI connection terminates in another room.

What is the best way to get cable service to this television and be able to select channels? The issue I am having is that I can connect the HD cable box in the other room, but I cant control the channels selection to my knowledge because the remote control wont work from that distance.

I also have a Cat6 cable going to this TV if that helps with the answer.

  1. If you don't mind spending some money on an amazing remote, get the Logitech 890.

I have the 550 and it's awesome. I programmed mine to turn on the tv, go into the tv's menu and turn off the speakers, change the color mood on the tv, turn off the satellite, and turn on my Logitech surround sound system and select the optical input.

    ONE BUTTON PRESS!

All this was done by setting up the commands on my PC, connecting the remote via USB, and updating the remotes settings.

Logitech claims a 175,000 device compatibility. Simple programming is done by selecting type of device (tv,  dvd, satellite), brand, and model number. Easy is an understatement as far as basic programming.

What this has to do with you is the 890 comes with an RF extender. Since RF uses Radio Frequencies and can go through walls, it will be perfect for you. You just connect the extender to your devices in the other room and program the remote.

Also, I found mine for half the price on Amazon.
