Question:

Using Hair Dye from a Box?

Okay, so I'm naturally blond, but last October I went to my hairdressers and I went dark brown. Ever since she's been doing it for me for 30$ (here, shes cheap lol). Anyway, my colour is starting to fade and my roots are starting to show, and I want to save my money.

I used 10$ to buy Garnier 100% colour in Dark Cool Brown. I've used a box dye before (it was like a mousse) and it sucked. I'm hesitant to do it now, but I don't really want to spend all my money.

any tips on making sure I can get my whole head? And just other tips if you have any.

Thanks in advanced!

  1. yes i dye my hair at home all the time i use loreal feria they have tons of shades of brown and it doesn't damage your hair just make sure you do a deep conditioner after to protect your hair

  2. put it on in sections make sure whole head is wet before timing

  3. go back to the salon, I just screwed my hair up with a home bottle job.

  4. The good thing about the box, is there is alot of dye in there. I have shoulder length hair, and i always have some left to throw away.  Theres nothing to it. Just start where your forehead meets the hairline and start squirting.  I dont stop until my hair is in a wet dye blob on top of my head. You'll be surprised how easy it is. The conditioner they that comes in the box will make your hair very smooth and tangle free so dont worry if your hair gets kinda tangled in the process.

    Have fun.

  5. I always dye my hair out of packets, because it's just so expensive to do it at the hair dressers. If your main focus is your roots, make sure you focus on the roots and put TOO MUCH in that area, even if it seems like too much because chances are it can still come off. After you've applied all the dye wrap it in something like a plastic shower cap or glad wrap, so it stays away from the air and it sort of locks in better. Make sure it's a permanent dye not semi-permanent otherwise it washes out in the shower.

Also don't wash your hair for 24 hours after dyeing it (except the bit where you're washing out the dye) or even 48 hours if you can, because that makes it last longer. With browns you're lucky because even if it comes out uneven it makes it look really nice and layered, whereas other colours like purple, red, or someone with blonde hair going black have to keep it VERY even.

    Have fun!

  6. i always dye my  hair from a box and it works so easily, expecially because it is brown. what i would do is, depending on how long your hair is, i would buy 1 -2 boxes, my hair is almost at the middle of my back and i need two boxes, deffinetly. this is because i will miss pieces underneath my hair which will be annoying. and.. its worse when other people can notice it and they tell me about it, sooo depending on how long your hair is, you might want to buy two boxes. make sure your hair is dry and not damp in any sort of way... put more on the area where the roots are because it will take longer for the dye to hold where are at the bottom of the hair, it will hold really quick and it might be darker. i know when i first started dying my hair, the bottom tips would always be darker. anyways, make sure that when you wash out the color, you dont use shampoo because it defeats the purpose. !!! just use the conditioner that it comes with and make sure you use the whole tube, dont use what they say. they say you get like 5 uses out of that little tube and it is such a lie!!! use the whole thing, and make sure u leave it on your head. lol for about 5 mins.. then wash and do not wash your hair for 48 hours for the color to stay in longer... and make it look better. when the 48 hours comes, then you can wash with shampoo and regular conditioner and maybe u want to get something that is designed for colored hair... GOODLUCK!! and hoped this helped.
