Question:

Using JVC Speakers with Subwoofer from Altec Lansing..?

Is it possible or wise to connect some powerful JVC speakers I have to the Altec Lansing (MX5021) subwoofer? They will connect as they use the same stereo wires but is there a risk of damage to any of the speakers and would the volume control work or is it only specific to the Altec Lansing MX5021 speakers that are supposed to be in the setup.

Ideally, I want the Altec Lansing MX5021 subwoofer connected to 2 big JVC hi-fi speakers rather than the supplied smallish altec lansing ones to create a decent 2.1 setup.

Cheers!

Bob.

  1. Well correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the speakers that came with the Altec are self powered (they plug into a power source). That would mean hooking up the non-powered jvc speakers would not give you enough volume to listen to. Unless you use an amp of some sort, that would work fine.
