Hey guys, what are some good moves from jujitsu and other martial arts derived from it (judo, bjj...) that I would find useful in high school wrestling. I am currently cross training in both. Thanks!

  1. While wrestling skills would improve your juijitsu with its takedowns and control, I don't think juijitsu would really help you in wrestling at all. In fact it might actually hurt your wrestling due to the fact that juijitsu fighters spend a lot of time on their backs.  Plus you will spend a lot of time learning and drilling moves that are illegal in wrestling, time that would be better spent practicing legal moves.  And, if you accidentally revert to a choke or lock in the middle of a wrestling match it will get you penalized or DQ'ed.  I think judo, with its emphasis on takedowns, maintaining top position, and staying off your back would be more helpful with wrestling. But if you want to be a champion wrestler, just wrestle...

  2. well,i do judo and wrestling,so from judo, the osotogari,or ogoshi, and maybe a butterfly guard could come in handy, you never know, just keep it legal........but i think that footsweeps def could...but for most jiu jitsu,i dont think it will help you at all, where you dont think about how lonmg you are really on your back, because you have an advantage sometimes, where that never happens for wrestling, unless its a cradle or something where ur required on one shoulder to pin the opponent

  3. I train in BJJ and I have a friend on the high school wrestling team. I've talked to him about what techniques they are allowed to use and from what he's said not many of the BJJ techniques would be legal in a wrestling fight. I'm sure you'd have better ground control and you'd be superior in what techniques you could use. From what I've heard you could use lock locks, knee bars, arm bars, shoulder locks, head locks, chokes, and wrist locks.

  4. id concentrate on wrestling, the point of wrestling is control and pinning. ...the object of judo is to throw or submit your opponent or win by points. your object in jujutsu (bjj that is) is to submit or win by points.

  5. Do you know that wrestling and boxing applied not the same rules?

    So do boxing and Kungfu!

In wrestling, if you do boxing, you will get RED CARD!

In Boxing, you kick or hit under the belt, you get RED CARD!

Know the game and know their ruless.

  6. just the plain judo throw. its the most useful in my opinion.

  7. My teacher oncetold me, "where wrestling ends, Jiu Jitsu begins".  Although they are both grappling sstyles BJJ focuses on submissions from any and all positions.  Many of the techniques learned in BJJ would get you disqualified in a ccollegiatetournament.
