Using Maracyn Two in my aquarium?

My betta has popeye. I bought him that way, I felt sorry for him :( I have him in a 10 gallon and am fixing to treat him with the Maracyn Two to treat it. My question is the enclosed instructions are missing and even though it says the directions on the back of the box too, I am not sure if I need to remove my cartridge out of my filter. Does anyone know????

Thanks

  1. Okay according to the pamphlet inside the box it says once the course is completed do a 25% water change and the activated carbon will remove the rest of the medication. So personally if you can remove the carbon from your filter media and just have the floss media in there to continue straining the chunks of uneaten food and p**p from the water you'd be doing good. Otherwise the charcoal will remove the medications from the water.

  2. On the first day, use 2 packets per 10 gallons. Each day after, treat with one packet per 10 gallons. Remove JUST the activated carbon from your filter-- this may mean slitting open the filter cartridge so there is still filter floss or foam in it. The activated carbon will remove medication from the water. After 5 days of treatment, do a water change and add the carbon back to the filter IF the infection is gone. If it persists, continue the treatment for another 5 days.
